Try networking your business with other businesses. You could trade leads or mailing lists. This will cut down on your marketing and advertising costs. You may also try bartering goods and services with them.

C. Wholesale/Bulk

Phone Tech Study

Millions of us have attended training classes to learn how to build better spreadsheets and killer PowerPoint presentations since the dawn of the personal computer age. Now, as cell phones and other mobile gadgets become increasingly complex and loaded with features, entrepreneurs are finding similar opportunities in the mobile field.

New Zealand’s Mobile Mentor provides hour long one on one sessions as well as group training on how to use the rising number of features bundled with mobile devices. Plus, it conducts courses for phone industry sales personnel on how to explain a mobile gadget’s advantages to customers.

You are the Biggest Obstacle

There are things that need to be accomplished before year’s end or within a few years. Regardless of your role within your business, you have goals. You may own the place and set them yourself or you may have a boss that walked in and laid them out for you.

Either way, Reaching some goals is pretty easy, it's not going to talk about low hanging fruit here. It's going to talk about a goal that either scares you to death or exhilarates you.

Take a moment to think about that big goal and answer these questions:
  • What would it mean to you if you actually achieved it?
  • How would you act differently after achieving it?
  • What would you take on that you’re not currently?
  • What would you leave behind?
  • Why is the goal truly important to you?

Those questions aren’t always easy to answer. But think about how empowering it is to know the answers to those questions. Think about how good it would feel to be on the other side of achieving your goals and being the answers to those questions. What is Lappy Hour Business

A funny thing happens when people bring their dogs to the bar.

Lappy Hour started as a way for Jenny Clough to promote her mortgage business.

It has since evolved into a wacky social event that neighbors, humans and dogs alike, look forward to each month. The venue, more often than not, is a local Nashville watering hole.

Clough provides a way for dog lovers to meet other dog lovers in an environment that’s more fun than a dog park or a training class. The variety of sizes and breeds that attend provide plenty of entertainment, along with plenty of comedy, kisses and drool.

Not Profit Yet From The Sites

Gregg Rottler began contemplating his Web empire last year on his desktop computer at his home near Tampa-Fla, without quite having a clear plan,

As many bloggers have done, Mr. Rottler, a state environmental code officer, followed an impulse to share stories about annoyances. He and his wife, Karen, an elementary school teacher, often eat out, and he realized that people liked to talk about restaurant experiences gone wrong.

“I’ve had my share of bad dinners, and I thought this could provide some catharsis and also be a source of entertainment,” he said. “I always wondered how people put those Web sites together. So I bought a humongous manual and worked through it” to learn how to create a site about bad restaurant experiences.

He needed a domain name. Surely, an obvious one, Dinnersfromhell.com, wasn’t available. It was.

The site went up in January, festooned with text and video links, and readers soon began posting tales of woe. Later, Rottler saw a television commercial depicting a man trapped in a tiny airplane coach seat between two slobs who were slurping, belching, snorting, sneezing and bellowing on either side. It was an ad for Princess Cruises, to show that cruises have none of these torments.

“It clicked to me that Flightsfromhell would be a cool site,” he said. But surely, Flightsfromhell.com wasn’t available.

It was. It turned out, so were Cruisesfromhell.com and other things from hell, domain names he snatched up as quickly as the ideas occurred to him. Domain-name registration is cheap, about $9 a year.

Rottler hasn’t made any profit yet from the sites. Still, his airline site has links to a gift shop he runs in an arrangement with CafePress.com, selling T-shirts, sweatshirts, track suits and coffee mugs with the Flights From Hell logo.

It also has links to air-travel books on Amazon. (Among them are “Plane Insanity: A Flight Attendant’s Tales of Sex, Rage and Queasiness at 30,000 Feet,” by Elliott Hester.)

Why Too Big Segment Marketing

Although 50 million people in the United States have some form of physical or mental disability, they spend money just as easily as others. But there are few efficient ways for advertisers to reach them, and that’s what a new Web site, Disaboom.com hopes to change.

Disaboom is the brainchild of J. Glen House, who graduated from medical school after becoming a quadriplegic as a result of a skiing accident at 20. The site combines the social-networking features of Web sites like Facebook with information of interest to its constituency: medical news, career advice, dating resources and travel tips.

Marketing to people with disabilities may look great on paper, but it is not easy.

“We’re a very difficult group to reach,” said Eric Lipp, founder of the Open Doors Organization, a nonprofit group that consults with companies about the disability market. “People in the marketing world will say, ‘I can reach out to them,’ and I’m just telling you it’s not easy. We’re just spread out over all kinds of walks of life from different races to different religions to different income levels and education.”

“The disability community to a large degree is trying to get more visibility as a desirable constituency, whether you’re talking about customers with money in their pockets, or a talent pool to hire from, or voters,” Andrew J. Imparato, president of the American Association of People With Disabilities, said. “To a large degree, we feel like we’re invisible as a market and a political constituency.”

The number of adults with some form of disability is by all accounts growing, in part because the population is aging. Disability rates among older people are substantially higher, greater than 40 percent of the population 65 and over, compared with 19 percent of those between 16 and 64, according to census data.

The portion of the population with a disability will rise from one in five today to nearly one in four by 2030, according to Open Doors.

“They call us T.A.B.’s; the temporarily able bodied,” said Howard Lieber, vice president for sales at Disaboom.com, who does not have a disability. “If you live long enough, you will get some physical limitation. You will eventually experience some of what these people are experiencing right now.”

The Sting of Reciprocal Link

When starting out checking up on this daily seeing if Google, Yahoo or MSN cached the pages linking out and then watching if/when they showed up in the SERPs. The result was quite a roller coaster ride. One day the test pages would be cached and the next day the cache date was from several days prior.

This happened frequently. The same thing with the SERPs. One day all the test pages would show up and the next day gone and then the next day just some of the test pages showed up and the next others, but not necessarily the ones from the previous day. It was interesting to watch.


After about several weeks of daily monitoring trying start to cut back to every few days, then weekly; then, you'll kind of forgot about it with the occasional thought "Hey, I wonder how that test is going", in which take a quick look and forget all about it again. Here we are now, over a year later and I think you can confidently display the results as definitive.

Setup the Linking Test

On one of my sites I created a master testing page. From this page I linked to eight new pages created specifically for this test. Each of those pages contained a few paragraphs of content with the word "reciprocallinksarenotdead" linked to an external web site. The goal was to watch the search results to see what sites appeared in the SERPs for our test term.

For the sake of creating a good testing ground, we linked to four sites that linked back and four sites that didn't. From here we split things up even further by linking to two sites in each group to that we considered to be "high authority" for their industry, and two that we considered to be "lower authority" for their industry. We then split this again using one to link using the target site's keyword in the link and the other not.

What's Wrong with Reciprocal Links

Reciprocal links are not dead. Weren't dead before. Aren't dead now. I know it and you know it. But for just a second let's pretend otherwise.

A while back there was quite a bit of scare mongering going around the SEO industry about how reciprocal links were dead. I had a potential client once tell me that o and so big name in the SEO industry told them that reciprocal links were dead. I've said this before and I'll say it here again.

There is nothing wrong with reciprocal links. It's all about how you use implement them that matters. No, reciprocal links are not dead and now I have the proof. Last year I decided to run my own test so I could refute what I already knew to be true. Yeah, I know who cares about reciprocal links now, right?

The fear tactics have run their course and, frankly, nobody is engaged in old school mass reciprocal link swapping reciprocal link test. There you go:

If all you do is look for low-quality reciprocal links that ad no value to any user's experience then, yes, that can, and should do you some harm. But don't be afraid of reciprocation. If someone links to you out of kindness, feel free to link back to them out of gratitude. It's not going to hurt you one bit and the link to you won't be devalued. Just be sure you're adding value, not reciprocating for the sake of reciprocating.

Being Listed on the First Result Page

High search engine rankings are important if you want to get more customers and more sales. Is it important to be listed on the first result page or is it enough to be listed in the top 30 results?

Start by choosing the right keywords
This is very important. It makes no sense to target general keywords such as "business" because you have no chance of getting the number 1 listing for such a keyword. In addition, general keywords usually don't convert to sales.

The best keywords have little competition and a high conversion rate. Use this keyword analysis research tool to find these keywords.

Create a content rich
Web site that can be optimized for many different keyword combinations is site that have a content rich. The more different web pages you have the more likely it is that search engines will list your web site on the first position for a keyword and that web surfers will find your web site relevant to their needs.

Get inbound links to your web site
High search engine rankings are the result of optimized web page content and good inbound links. If you want to have rankings, your web site must have both.

Paid Search for the man who have 50 disruptive Internet Companies

Bill Gross has more than 50 disruptive Internet companies under his belt. Now he's looking for moneymaking opportunities in the physical world.

Some people can't stop thinking about food. Bill Gross can't stop thinking about new businesses. One of the world's great serial entrepreneurs, he's launched more than 50 startups through Idealab, his incubator in Pasadena, Calif. His track record includes both winners (CitySearch, Cooking.com, NetZero/United Online) and losers (eToys, Eve.com, Free-PC). But he's best known for inventing the pay-per-click advertising model behind Overture Services (formerly GoTo.com), the pioneering search engine he sold to Yahoo! in 2003 for $1.6 billion.

Now, after more than a decade of launching dotcoms, Gross has rediscovered the pleasures and profitability of the physical world. Idealab's current lineup is crowded with companies that make actual products: robots, 3-D printers, electric cars, rooftop solar collectors. As Gross puts it, he's much more interested today in "atoms businesses" than "bits businesses."

Become the basis for paid search
Paid search has had an impact for Google (Charts, Fortune 500) and Yahoo (Charts, Fortune 500). But it's had an impact as well on many small publishers. Just as eBay (Charts, Fortune 500) empowers people to make a business online, so many publishers use AdSense and the price-per-click model to earn money online.

About bringing search into the next phase

Google's controversial paid links report

It's been a couple of weeks since it became apparent that Google was penalizing link directories, at least a few of them, knocking them out of the SERPs even for their own business names. There's still no official word from Google on this, but there is plenty speculation that it wasn't algorithmic.

Editor's note:
The directory earthquake expected never really came, the penalties laid limited to a select few. Let the theorizing begin as nobody at the Googleplex is talking about it. A horse head in the directory bed; a message? Or do you think this is the direct result of selective enforcement via paid link reports? Let us know what you think in the comments section.

The reason that speculation has arisen is that though there was a seeming spate of directories hit, the number of them; up to 60 or so that we know of; is relatively small compared to the number of directories out there, hundreds or thousands passing on PageRank.

One theory suggests that people are using Google's controversial paid links report form, implemented last spring to a furious response. However, shortly after Matt Cutts' invitation to report instances of paid links, Cutts clarified that he and Google's webspam team weren't interested in reports on directories, only instances similar to what he cited on his blog.

Nevertheless, Cutts followed up that question with some rules of thumb for evaluating a directory's value:
  • Does the directory reject urls? If every url passes a review, the directory gets closer to just a list of links or a free-for-all link site.
  • What is the quality of urls in the directory? Suppose a site rejects 25% of submissions, but the urls that are accepted/listed are still quite low-quality or spammy. That doesn’t speak well to the quality of the directory.
  • If there is a fee, what’s the purpose of the fee? For a high-quality directory, the fee is primarily for the time/effort for someone to do a genuine evaluation of a url or site.

That may or may not be a lot to consider, and given that a select few directories have been affected, it may be a cue that Google is considering it more than before. It may be just a strong message being sent, a warning to clean things up.

It is also a good idea to make sure you write in complete sentences and make your content read well. This is not just a good idea for search engine consideration but also for the reader of your page. You want them to find the page informative and easy to read. Having them come back and telling their friends about the page is important. If they find it interesting enough, they may just give you that all-important link to your page.

Here are some other things to consider about content.

The content of your page is not just limited to the words written on the page. Search engines also look at how you present your content and what you say about it. For example, every page in your site should have a title. This is the first thing written on the page such as the title to an article. When you present a title you place it as a heading. Heading tags are a way to tell the search engines this is what my page is about. To be effective your heading needs to be about the same thing as the rest of the content of your page. You can also put sub headings on the page. You can title different sections of the page with heading 2 or heading 3 tags.

Search engines also give you two places to tell them what you think your content is about. This is done through your meta title and description tags. These are the only two meta tags that most search engines look at so far as determining how they are going to rank your page. I do not even add a key word tag to any of my pages. The meta title is the place where you tell the search engine what your page is about. It can be exactly the same as the title on the page itself (your H 1 tag or page heading). Your description tag gives you the opportunity to describe the content of the page to the search engine. The description needs to be short and to the point. It should be no more than two sentences but preferably only one sentence. There is no reason a good description of a page cannot be made in one simple but complete sentence.

Last but not least is the overall content of the page. Make each page about one thing. The more topics your page talks about the less credit you get for each topic. For example you want to make a page about the three most influential people in medicine today. You can make your first page generic and mention the names of the three people and their general contributions to medicine while concentrating on making sure every paragraph is about the main topic of "most influential people in medicine". Then, if you want to go into detail about the three individual people, make a separate page about each and have them linked to from the "most influential" page.

So links are essential to the health of your site, and indeed your business, but all links are not equal in value to your site.

Reciprocal links will help, but they are far less effective than one way backlinks, i.e. links from another site where you don't have to link back to them. These "One Way" backlinks will give your site a far greater boost in the search engine results and bring you more traffíc, providing of course that you have chosen good (relevant) keywords for your links.

There are many ways of getting Traffic
These powerful one way backlinks, but most you will have no control over the anchor text used (i.e. keywords) in the link, which means their "power" is unfocused and therefore of less use to you in achieving the targeted keyword results you are looking for.

For example, submitting your site to website directories can be a very effective way of picking up some high quality one way links from high PR sites, but you will seldom be able to choose the keywords/anchor text used for the link, often ending up with the site name as the link.

This is not a waste of time, as the Page Rank passed to your site will, with the correct internal linking structure, be passed on to your sites internal pages, helping them to rank better for their targeted keywords.

For SEO this has traditionally meant submitting a web site to search engines so they'll know about and crawl it. SEO firms offered submission services as a big selling point to bring in clients. They're all much smarter now, just focus on gaining quality inbound links and your site will be indexed in no time.

Search Engines
If you don't know what a search engine is congratulations on finally making it out from under that rock. Search engines are essentially programs that scan an existing index of the web based on a query of search terms, or keywords, that a user enters. However, the word more commonly refers to companies as a whole - Google, for example, controls a search engine, while Googlebot is the crawler that gathers content for its index, but most users and webmasters think of a search engine as the whole package.

Search Engine Marketing
Most often this refers to Pay-Per-Click marketing in which an advertiser bids on chosen keywords and writes several ads to be displayed should their bid achieve placement. These ads are displayed in the "sponsored" section of search engine result pages (SERPS). However, in some circles this term is used to refer to any action taken to gain rankings both paid and organic.

Search Engine Optimization
This one is open to interpretation. It is quite often used to encapsulate a huge amount of different tactics. On-site optimization, off-site optimization (link building, etc) and many other techniques all feasibly fall under the SEO blanket. However, there is an obvious difference between optimizing a page's code to be clean and search friendly and writing link bait that will be popular and get linked to.

The pages resulting from a search engine query run by a user. Webmasters review these pages to determine where their pages are ranking for certain search terms.

Gateway Pages
Also "doorway pages." Although there isn't a real consensus about what these pages are, their function is always cited as their definition. In other words, these pages are created to "rank well in search engines" by playing to the algorithms. Often viewed as "spammy," "gray hat" or even "black hat." However, any page written with search in mind, and geared towards search, can be construed to be a "gateway page." The difference between a page well-optimized for search and a "gateway page?" No clear lines there, but quality of content is probably the determining factor.

HTML
Maybe there are so many person know this one, but there are probably some of you don't. HTML stands for Hyper-Text Mark-up Language, and it is the core building block that has made the web the greatest modern tool for business, social, informational, political and any other causes. Directories
When webmasters realized just how much power inbound links have in determining search rankings they quickly set out to do two things:
Get inbound links
Set up web sites where other webmasters could achieve inbound links (meaning big traffíc revenues for the site). Hence the directory farms you'll find today. Link building has been a priority on the líst of any SEO-savvy webmaster for years, and as a result "quick fix" directories that allow streamlined listing submissions get a ton of traffic. However, Google and the other major search engines are on to this tactic, and the word among SEO "experts" is that the benefits of listing your site at directories are diminished if not gone.

Frames
Frames are a way of laying out a website with multiple documents in one browser window. Essentially, there is one main document which contains the frame set tag - this document specifies the dimensions/placement of the frames and also the documents that will "populate" those frames. From an SEO standpoint the use of frames for your layout is not recommended. Since frames do not use links in the same way, and since links may point to one frame from another, they may cause serious problems for crawlers. Additionally, there are almost no uses for frames that can't either be 1) duplicated with other methods or 2) thrown away without much fuss. If your site was built with frames and you're thinking you don't want to rebuild - it might be tough luck if you're interested in optimizing for search. Consider it a learning experience - build yourself a CSS-based layout.

Algorithms
A search algorithm is, in short, the incredibly complex mathematical formula that a search engine uses to "rank" web sites for keywords. Based on a huge number of variables and calculations, algorithms are among the most closely-guarded secrets on the internet. Why? Imagine if they were leaked - suddenly the less-than-honest would have a very specific guideline to follow in climbing to the top of search results in a less-than-organic way, ruining the quality of Google's search results and their entire competitive advantage with it.

Crawlers
Also same known as Robots, Spiders, Bot or Bots. Googlebot, for example, is a search engine crawler. Googlebot periodically traverses the web in record time, indexing content, links or/and everything contained in page source code and storing it in Google's search index. Then, when a user visits Google and enters a search phrase, the index, filtered by the algorithm, is what the user gets. Please note: there is some delay in this process since the results you're getting are from the index and not the live web.

PPC strategies and tactics

This is one of the most popular ways to make money as an affiliate. If you've got a good handle on PPC strategies and tactics, you can make more money by placing ads an affiliate than the person who created the product in the first place (and who gets 100% commision on their own sales)

The key is to find keywords that are not as widely known. This is sometimes known as "the long tail". By finding dozens of little known keywords, you can rank quite high, and drive a lot of traffic to your web sites

I personally recommend driving the traffic to your own website, where you capture
the visitor's name and email address before you send them off to your affiliate promotion. This way, you can promote other products to them in the future.

The other reason that this tactic work so well is because you can create your own scarcity on an offer that doesn't have any. Sure they can buy the product anytime, but if they want to get their hands on your special bonus, they have to buy before the given deadline.

For example, if you're promoting a product on how to make money with Google Adwords, then take the time to use the strategies in the course, and document the results you've achieved out of studying the program

Maybe you have a low clickthru ratio before, but now your click thru has more than tripled. Well that is worth talking about. Take before and after screenshots of your clickthru, so that people can really see that it work.

The Web is full of marketers who make empty promises that can't be backed up. Stand out from the crowd by showing your readers that what you're saying actually is true, and then prove it.

Peer to Peer for affiliate

You know those Peer to Peer file sharing programs, like Lime wire? There are people who create these little Quicktime videos that have keywords in the title and filename, but there's are twist.

When you open the video, it automatically opens up your browser and take some affiliate link. Now, I don't recommend doing this unethically, but if you had some kind of original content that you think might be popular on a P2P Program, this might be something to think about.

This is still bit new but from talking with other marketers that it does work. In order to make video that open up browser window you need Quicktime Pro at "www.apple.com/quicktime/pro"

Impotant think of the Titles

Titles should always lead readers to what they'll discover if they sign up for your list, and they should be pretty tight and punchy. They need to hit readers in the face and make them think, "Oh, I want that." A good example might be, "Kicking the Junk Habit and Making Money." Is it about quitting drugs? No, it's about selling on eBay. But the title may lead people to want to know what the title means. It's a curiosity issue, and it works every time, especially if you use these punchy, weird titles on your list building pages.

Use the same concepts when writing your bullet points, too. You want them to be mini-headlines, not full sentences or worse, paragraphs. Keep them short and easy to read. "How to set up an automated money-making system" or "How to get others to send traffic to your website for FREE. " If you're a business owner, you'll surely want to know how you can do these things. They're benefits for obvious reasons--more traffic, more money. They're easy to figure out, but interesting enough to make people want to know "how" even more.

Also include a sense of urgency. You'll notice in the title above, I used the word "today," which implies that if you do the things I recommend in this article, you'll have more opt-ins right away. Change your "submit" button to read something better, too, like "order your free subscription," or "immediate access." Anything that calls people to action will work better than the plain old submit button.

Are the List Building need Opt-in list?

Are the Headline, bullet points, opt-in box really truly elementary on the squeeze page? I don't think so. When you're list building they are persuasion perspective that you have to consider. The first thing they see on the list building page is your headline. How well written is it?

What's in it for them is very, very important. Your headline has to show people some benefit of being on your list. If it's something you want, you're more likely to sign up, right? For instance, if you consider the title of this article, you want more opt-ins or you wouldn't be reading now. Well, it's the same thing with your squeeze page. If you don't give people a good reason to join your list, they won't.

Even then, they may not join if they aren't curious. I mean, their mailboxes are already so crammed with messages, why would they want one more from you? They won't unless you make them crazy to know something that you're going to tell them. So, tease them a little. They want to know the "how." You're reading because you want to know how to get better results with your list building pages and ultimately, more opt-ins. You're wondering how to do it.
